Mexican skull made in clay, typical of the areas of the cities of Olinalà and Temalacatzingo, famous for its laquer decorations, in the state of Guerrero, south-west of Mexico.

Traditional subject present in the whole Mexican culture, the skull, calaveras, is presented and produced in many different ways and materials, created by both simple craftsmen and the most renowned artists who have brought this popular element at levels of great importance, known all over the world.
The ornamental motifs can differ between an object and another one: in this case the main theme is the Quetzal bird that lives in Central America, and whose beautiful plumage suggested the model for the feathered-serpent Quetzalcoatl that later distinguished all the civilizations of the area, such as the Mayas and the Aztecs.
Representation of the double, the earth of the snake and the sky of the bird, in combines both in a single symbology.
