In ancient Egyptian tradition the Ushabti -funerary statuettes in clay, stone or wood- were placed inside the tombs with the function of ‘replacing’ the deceased in carrying out all of their daily tasks, such as plowing and sowing. That occurred because no one, including the dead, could be exempted from agricultural activities that involved the entire population in relation of the flooding of the Nile river.
The Ushabti statuettes were put in finely decorated wooden box situated inside the tomb.
