From Tibet this original mask hand carved in wood to depict a skull.
In the Tibetan tradition the skull, as well as the skeleton, has always been present in Cham rites and ceremonies performed both by Buddhist monks and by those who belong to the ancient Bon cult, the original religion of Tibet.
These figures are called Durdag, the Lords of the Cemeteries, represent the evolution of the mind that has reached pure awareness.
They are also the protectors of not just the places where a cremation is performed, but also of all entities that guards their religion.
