The Kikýnethos Project

“The main idea of the Kikýnethos Project is to re-create a small natural paradise where Travellers can immerge themselves in a natural condition of vacation from everyday living, while a high standard of hosting, not in terms of consumerist luxury, but of eco-sensitive Quality, will be granted”

Traditional House Restoration in Old Trikeri Island, Pelion, Greece

The project at a glance

In a tiny Greek island, Old Trikeri, in the Pagasetic (Pagasitikos) gulf, Pelion area, central Greece, I own an old traditional house. The building was build in 1927 and lies within an area of 1000m2 with olive trees, 50 mt distant from the sea. Actually it is abandoned almost forty years.
I would love to bring further and complete renewal of the house in order to use it as a hosting structure for people that love to stay in a really natural environment where vacation from everyday living makes sense!
The house will, in a further step, be part of a larger project that intends to exploit the naturalistic, historical and cultural characteristics of the island in an eco-sensitive approach.

The Aim

Repair and, renovate  a one hundred year old traditional stone house* with a total respect of its typical features in a remote place requires a significant effort. I’m asking your support and participation to complete this step of the project.
My aim is to reach the necessary amount to complete works.
Paving, grouting, roof repair, wooden floor replacement, plumbing, fixtures, surrounding wall, garden, etc, will ask about three to four month’s work. Please have a look at the pictures and drawings to see what it is about.
*house has been recognized as a local traditional building by the Architectural Committee.

Once finished…

…the house (used to be called “kalývi”= cottage by the locals), having a total surface of approx. 110m2, will be able to host four people in two bedrooms in the upper floor and, occasionally, two more people in the large living room in the basement. Two bathrooms and a large kitchen will complete the building. The surrounding garden, approx. 900 m2, has 12 old olive trees and will offer peaceful hours under the Greek sun or under the olive trees, while the sweet whispering of the nearby bay will sing for you.
No traffic, no crowd, no pollution at all. Pheasants are the most probable “disturbers” just in case they will come out of the bush.

The Place

Old Trikeri island is a small, 4,5 square kilometres, island within the entrance of the Pagasetic (Pagasitikos) gulf, Mount Pelion area, central Greece. It is not fulsome to say it is a small forgotten paradise. Over 75 thousand olive trees, no cars at all, walking pathways, a clear sea, few and gentle inhabitants, 56 according the last census of 2011, two taverns an a -literally!- mini market, make it a little dream but still easy and worthwhile to reach. Old Trikeri is documented to be inhabited since the pre-historical times with the name of Kikýnethos (Greek Κικύνηθος). Swimming, fishing, snorkelling, walking, relaxing and dreaming are some of the things that you can do and that acquire a new meaning here, believe me.
